The Role

The Controller - Refractory roles in the Carbon Bake team (Anode Operations) will be responsible for leading the team in the day to day repair and maintenance of CBF3 and CBF4 refractory. Reporting to the Crew Leader, you will play an important role in supporting the leader in providing proactive support to the team in a manner that focuses on health, safety, environment, quality and continuous improvement.

Accountabilities

  • Sealing, repairing, rebuilding and straightening of refractory materials on the baking furnaces
  • Operating the refractory maintenance platform
  • Problem solving when faced with equipment issues
  • Completing refractory maintenance in accordance with the schedule
  • Assist the Bake or FTC Controllers with fault finding as required
  • Plan additional refractory maintenance activities (head wall levelling, out of plan refractory repairs, flue wall inspections, etc)

The Person

Given the importance of this role it is essential that you possess and are able to demonstrate: 

  • A demonstrated commitment to safety
  • Trade qualification in Bricklaying (or similar) is preferred
  • Must have previous Carbon Bake Refractory experience
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a team and work autonomously
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A commitment to continuous improvement
  • A willingness to learn and enthusiasm to develop new skills as required
  • Ability to manage complex issues and prioritisation of resources
  • Sound computer skills
